This composite show the rainbow at 20 minutes apart, respectively 23 (left picture) and 3 minutes (right picture) before the sunset.
Three things are easily visible:
- The rainbow is shifting to the right (the South), because the Sun is shifting to the right (the North) while setting in the Northern Hemisphere.
- The rainbow is taller in the right picture (taken later), because the Sun is lower.
- Green and blue colors still faintly visible in the left picture have disappeared in the right picture, because the Sun lost gradually those two colors to tint itself in red-orange. |
