The Blue Moon isn't blue... The "Blue Moon" is the name given to the second Full Moon in a month. In July 2004, there was two Full Moon, on July, 2nd and 31th, 2004. The Full Moon of the 31th was therefore a Blue Moon.
But we can see clearly in the picture that its color isn't blue, but orange, because it is rising and its white light is filtered by the thick Earth's atmosphere. In the following picture taken in close up a few minutes later, the color of the Moon is more evident. |
