For this total Moon eclipse, the clouds are coming quickly from the North-West. So, we have to run away toward South-East: direction the Golfe du Morbihan, a place renowned for its weather. Christophe, Erwan and I choose a site called "Les 7 îles" (the Seven Islands).
When we arrive, the Moon is high in the sky and still very bright as the eclipse hasn't yet started. I put a DSLR on a tripod and start a series of 6 s exposure once every 30 s, hoping the sea will ascend. And it will! So quickly, that we are forced to come back to the car by walking in about 20 cm of cold water! I think about Leonardo DiCaprio in the final scene of Titanic. Now, I don't believe he can survive more than 2 minutes!
Don't miss this animation (the real duration is one hour and a quarter) where the sea is ascending, submerging the tip of the tripod, whence the slight shift in the framing for the last 3 exposure, when the tripod sinks a little in the wet sand:

- In GIF format (300x200 pixels, 3.7 MB)
Notice the progressive darkening due to the clouds and the eclipse. |
